Maharashtra Minister for Public Health and Family Welfare Prakash Abitkar has announced that the state government will soon sign an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct cancer screening for all citizens of Maharashtra below the age of 30.
“Prevention is better than cure. I urge doctors to focus on this serious disease. We must work collectively towards early detection and timely treatment,” he said.
The state has also launched a major healthcare initiative by integrating the Mahatma Phule Health Scheme with the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Under the merged programme, free treatment will be provided for 2,399 diseases.
A nationwide vaccination drive targeting girls aged 9 to 14 will also be undertaken. In addition, cancer screening for individuals aged 30 and above will be introduced.
Abitkar acknowledged that hospitals are facing several operational challenges and stressed the need for a supportive and proactive approach from the government to strengthen the healthcare system.
