In a move aimed at making air travel more passenger-friendly, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued revised norms for ticket refunds and related charges.
Under the amended rules, airlines will not be allowed to levy any additional fee for correcting a passenger’s name if the error is reported within 24 hours of booking, provided the ticket was purchased directly through the airline’s website.
The DGCA further clarified that in cases where tickets are booked through travel agents or online portals, the responsibility for processing refunds will rest with the airlines, as agents act as their authorised representatives. Airlines must ensure that refunds are completed within 14 working days.
The revised guidelines also introduce changes in ticket cancellation norms in cases where passengers face medical emergencies.
