The Meteorological Depart-ment (IMD) has recently fore-cast the possibility of rainfall in some districts of the Ma-harashtra. On account of sud-den changes in weather, the IMD has advised farmers to secure their harvested gram and tur crops to prevent heavy loss.
At present, harvesting of gram crops has begun across hundreds of hectares in the district, while wheat and onion crops are fully matured and ready for harvest. In such a situation, any rainfall could result in significant losses for farmers.
Farmers who are already awaiting loan waivers are now further worried due to the cloudy weather conditions.
Light drizzling was reported on Tuesday evening.
Farmers on Wednesday were engaged in efforts to protect the harvested gram crop. Some were seen using harvester machines to expe-dite crop removal. Consid-erable changes in weather conditions have been ob-served this week.
In case of rains under the current circumstances, farmers cultivating onion, wheat, and gram, as well as vegetable growers, could suffer substantial loss. Gram farmers have accelerated the harvesting process to mini-mise potential damage.
