Ashadeep’s unique Chess Tournament receives enthusiastic response
A special chess tournament between visually impaired and sighted players, jointly organized by Ashadeep Apang Mahila Bal Vikas Sanstha, the Nagpur Chess Association, and the Freemasons, received an enthusiastic response at the auditorium of Vidarbha Sanshodhan Mandal.
In this competition, a total of 25 visually impaired and 25 sighted players participated, forming five teams with five players each. In addition, a few extra pairs also took part in the tournament. In the visually impaired category, the Tijen Gawar team secured first place, while the Manavatkar team finished second.
In the sighted category, the Sadanand Mahajan team won first place, while the Dilip Chepte team secured the second position. Additionally, the best sighted players on all five boards were from the Mahajan team.
In the visually impaired category, four players were from the Tejen Gawar team and one player from the Manavatkar team. In the individual awards, Simran Giradkar (youngest visually impaired female player) and Shivam Thakur (child visually impaired player) won top honours.
Sadanand Hajare attended the inauguration session as the chief guest, while Shri Sujit Shinde, Visually Impaired Education Officer of the Government of Maharashtra, was the special guest at the valedictory session. In his inspiring address, he said that if one dares to dream big, no physical limitation can become a barrier to success, a fact he demonstrated through his own example. Chief guest Dr. Tejinder Singh Rawal from the Masonic Lodge explained the mental and social benefits of playing chess.
In his presidential address, Lalasaheb Patil congratulated the players and appreciated the efforts of Ashadeep. Dr. Pratima Shastri, President of the organization, shared information about the social support extended to visually impaired individuals through the initiative “Saathi Haath Badhana.”
Officials of the Nagpur Chess Association, including Shri Soman and his colleagues, efficiently managed the tournament. The programme was compered by Dr. Jyoti Shiwalkar.
The guests were introduced by Chhaya Tare and Geeta Tare, while the vote of thanks in both sessions was delivered by Aparna Kulkarni.
