The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced the establishment of 11 new Additional Collector offices across the state to make revenue administration more accessible and efficient.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule made the announcement in the Assembly, describing the move as a major step towards decentralising administrative powers and ensuring quicker delivery of services to citizens.
Highlighting the challenges posed by a growing population, geographical barriers in remote regions, and increasing administrative workload, the minister said the new offices would reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to district headquarters for revenue-related matters.
“With senior revenue officials available closer to citizens, issues related to land and revenue will be resolved faster,” Bawankule said.
The Cabinet has approved the establishment of Additional Collector offices in Thane, Ratnagiri, Baramati in Pune district, Satara, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nanded, Amravati, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Nagpur.
To ease the workload at the Settlement Commissioner’s office, two additional posts of Additional Collector have also been sanctioned. In total, 143 new posts will be created following approval from the high-level secretaries’ committee. Each new office will have 13 officers and staff members.
The Cabinet granted final approval for these positions under the ‘S-25’ senior pay scale during its meeting held on February 10, 2026, the minister informed.
Responding to MLA Nana Patole’s demand for similar facilities in Sakoli and Hinganghat, Bawankule said that district restructuring could be considered after the 2027 Census. He added that a separate meeting would soon be held regarding administrative facilities for the two areas.
Addressing concerns over increasing workload in urban centres such as Nagpur, the minister said the government is considering establishing independent tehsil offices in every urban assembly constituency. Discussions with the Revenue Department are currently underway, and a policy decision will be taken soon.
Bawankule also revealed that proposals for 69 new Additional Tehsildar offices and 10 new Prant offices are in the final stages of approval.
He said the initiative would significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s revenue administration system, making it faster, more transparent and citizen-centric.
