The ongoing war situation has triggered a severe shortage of LPG, significantly impacting industries in the Butibori Industrial Area near Nagpur. Known as one of Asia’s largest five-star industrial estates, the area houses more than 150 industries that rely heavily on gas for production.
Due to the supply disruption, many factories are now facing a serious crisis. According to industry sources, several units have fuel reserves sufficient for only one or two days, forcing many companies to slow down their production activities.
The food processing and biscuit manufacturing sector has been among the worst affected. Many units in Butibori have reported that operating without LPG has become nearly impossible. Major companies in the area, including ITC Limited (ITC–Narayan unit), Sai Food Products, and Ajit Bakery, along with several other industries, depend on LPG for their production processes.
With the gas supply disrupted, baking and food processing units are under serious threat. Industry representatives fear that if LPG supply is not restored soon, it could lead to shortages of food products in the market.
The situation is equally critical for the galvanising sector. Five to six large galvanising industries in the state have reportedly been affected due to the non-availability of LPG. As a result, these industries are being forced to switch to older fuel methods, such as generating acetylene (carbide) gas.
Meanwhile, more than 50 fabrication industries that rely on LPG for heating and cutting operations are also struggling. While some units are exploring alternative fuels, the shift is leading to higher production costs.
Industry stakeholders have urged authorities to restore the LPG supply at the earliest to prevent further disruption to industrial production and supply chains.
