To strengthen the safety of schoolchildren travelling to and from educational institutions, the Nagpur Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have jointly launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles illegally transporting students across the city.
The campaign, which began on March 10, 2026, focuses on vehicles ferrying school students without valid permits or violating prescribed safety norms. Officials said the initiative aims to curb the use of unauthorised and private vehicles for student transport, which poses significant safety risks.
During the operation, enforcement teams conducted checks near schools and key roads where student transport vehicles operate regularly. Two vehicles transporting students of Monday High School in Ramdaspeth and another vehicle carrying students of Paloti High School on Gorewada Ring Road were found violating transport regulations. Action was taken against the vehicles and they were seized and handed over to the Regional Transport Office.
Authorities said that a total of 101 vehicles were inspected during the drive. Among them, four vehicles were seized under Section 66/192 of the Motor Vehicles Act for operating without a valid permit to transport school students. In addition, 21 vehicles were issued challans for various traffic rule violations.
Traffic officials noted that in several instances private vehicles are used to transport students without proper authorisation or safety compliance, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering children.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lohit Matani, along with officials of the Regional Transport Department, appealed to school authorities, principals and citizens to inform the Traffic Department or RTO if they notice illegal transportation of students.
Parents have also been advised to ensure that their children commute only in authorised school transport vehicles that comply with mandated safety standards.
Officials further urged the media to publicise the enforcement action to spread awareness and support ongoing road safety initiatives aimed at protecting schoolchildren across Nagpur.
