The Maharashtra government has stepped up action to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply to domestic consumers and curb black marketing, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR), authorities have conducted 2,129 raids across the state so far, leading to the seizure of 1,208 LPG cylinders being sold illegally. Enforcement drives have also resulted in the recovery of over ?33 lakh from violators.
Under provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, cases have been registered against 23 individuals for illegal hoarding, with 18 arrests made so far.
To strengthen public participation, the state has launched a dedicated WhatsApp helpline (9769919229) for citizens to report issues related to LPG delivery, black marketing, or hoarding.
Meanwhile, the Centre has assured that LPG supply remains stable despite global energy disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict. Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said efforts are underway to prevent any impact on consumers, adding that there is no critical shortage of LPG.
Officials said LPG supply is being closely monitored amid the evolving geopolitical situation, with domestic production up by 36%. Online booking of LPG cylinders has also risen from about 84% to nearly 90%, reflecting improved access and distribution.
