The Nagpur University (NU) has issued a corrigendum partially revising the academic calendar for the 2025-26 session after concerns were raised by Senate member Manmohan Bajpai over the lack of clarity on the extension of the academic session and the summer vacation schedule. The corrigendum follows a decision taken by the Academic Council in its meeting held on March 7. However, it remains silent on crucial aspects such as the start of summer exams, the beginning of the second term, and the commencement of the new academic session.
As per the revised schedule, the second term for even semesters and annual pattern courses, “which commenced on Nov 10, 2025”, will now conclude on April 30, 2026. This marks an extension of 15 days from the earlier end date of April 15, 2026.
Consequently, the summer vacation has been rescheduled from May 1 to June 15. Senate members questioned what the university administration aims to achieve through this 15-day extension.
The academic calendar mentions March 9 and 10 as the start dates for summer exams. However, NU is yet to announce the summer exam timetable, even as the corrigendum implies that exams may have already begun. In fact, results of nearly 60% of the winter 2025 exams are still pending, with no clear timeline from the university administration on their declaration.
Senate members and faculty from affiliated colleges have also questioned the use of the term ‘Shudhipatra’ or corrigendum, stating that NU should have issued a comprehensive revision of the academic calendar instead.
“The academic calendar was passed by the Academic Council, a statutory body. Does it mean the council made a mistake which is being corrected?” they asked. They also pointed out that since the document is silent on summer exam dates, it remains unclear whether the original schedule is still being followed.
They further highlighted discrepancies in the timeline. “The second term never started from Nov 10 as delayed winter exams continued till Feb end. This is a major blunder,” they said.
Bajpai said he had sought a fresh notification on the academic schedule. “At least summer exam start dates should have been mentioned. However, how are students going to plan their future?” he said.
Bajpai seeks task force to tackle exam, result delays
Senate member Manmohan Bajpai has urged the university administration to constitute a dedicated task force to address delays in examinations and the declaration of results, which have disrupted the academic session. He pointed out that winter examination results are still pending, while supplementary exams, their results, and upcoming summer exams remain lined up, making it difficult to smoothly begin the new session.
Bajpai warned that final-year students would be the worst affected, as delays could impact their competitive exams and admission timelines. He has called for forming a team of experienced principals, teachers, officers, and staff to work on a “war footing” and ensure timely decisions, cautioning against over-reliance on software systems. He also expressed willingness to participate in discussions to help find a practical solution.
