An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted in Maharashtra’s Akola has been suspended after allegedly asking a woman in custody to send her daughter to him in exchange for money and sexual favours. The accused officer, identified as Rajesh Jadhav, is currently absconding, officials confirmed.
According to reports, the incident took place while Jadhav was on duty. The woman, who had been detained in connection with an ₹80 lakh fraud case, alleged that the officer made inappropriate remarks and propositions during her time at the police station. He reportedly told her that since she was “very beautiful,” her daughter must be as well, and asked her to send the girl to his residence in return for ₹10,000.
The woman later approached a female police officer at the station and filed a complaint. Acting on it, authorities immediately removed Jadhav from duty. Akola Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak ordered his suspension with immediate effect.
Police said Jadhav is currently on the run, and three teams have been formed to trace and arrest him. Senior Police Inspector Anil Jumle, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that a formal case has been registered and efforts to locate the accused are underway.
Former Maharashtra State Women’s Commission member Dr Asha Mirge noted that complaints against Jadhav had surfaced in the past as well. Around a decade ago, there were allegations related to family disputes and inappropriate behaviour involving women, including an incident with a female police officer.
She expressed concern over the incident, stating that such cases are especially alarming when they involve those in positions of authority. At the same time, she acknowledged the prompt action taken by the police in suspending the officer.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken and accountability will be ensured as the investigation progresses.
