The Delhi Crime Branch on Friday, April 3, 2026, busted a factory operating in the Kanjhawala area of North-West Delhi, exposing a major counterfeit manufacturing racket.
During the raid, officials seized a large quantity of fake toothpaste, along with machinery and raw materials. The operation uncovered a network involved in producing counterfeit products branded as Sensodyne.
Toothpaste made in unhygienic conditions
According to police, a warehouse in Mahavir Vihar was being used to repackage locally made toothpaste under the Sensodyne label in extremely unhygienic conditions. These counterfeit products were then sold in the market as genuine, posing serious health risks to consumers.
The operation was led by Inspector Ashish Sharma under the supervision of ACP Sunil Srivastava and DCP Pankaj Kumar.
Seizures during the raid
The Crime Branch recovered thousands of filled and empty toothpaste tubes, along with packing boxes, caps, wrappers, glue, heating machines, and equipment used for filling and sealing. Around 130 kilograms of fake paste stored in drums was also seized.
Investigations revealed that the accused filled low-quality paste into empty tubes, sealed them using machines, and packaged them in Sensodyne boxes for distribution. Workers had been hired to carry out the process.
The factory owner, 58-year-old Hariom Mishra, was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted to running the illegal operation from a rented warehouse and supplying the counterfeit products to the market.
In total, over 3,000 filled fake toothpaste tubes, more than 10,000 empty tubes, and a substantial amount of packaging materials and machinery were seized during the raid.
