Case Cracked Overnight in Joint Action by Gittikhadan Police and Crime Branch
In a shocking incident in Nagpur, three youths have been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of a 14-year-old boy, Atharv Dilip Nannore, from the Gawlipura area under Gittikhadan police limits. Police said the crime was driven by a plan to extort ransom.
The accused have been identified as Jayram Gopal Yadav (19) of IBM Road, Ketan alias Kunal Ramesh Sahu (22) from near Qutubshah Mosque, and Ayush Mohan Sahu (19) from the Shivshankar Temple area in Mankapur. All three are reportedly vegetable vendors.
According to investigators, the accused were known to the victim’s family, as they frequently bought vegetables from his father and had pending dues. Knowing that Atharv’s father was a wholesale trader and likely to have cash, they allegedly planned the kidnapping three days in advance. Jayram, who often visited their shop, was assigned to lure the boy.
On the day of the incident, Atharv had stepped out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession to buy ice cream when Jayram approached him. He led the boy towards a Tata Ace vehicle where the other two accused were waiting. The trio then allegedly forced him into the vehicle and gagged him.
They initially drove towards Gorewada, but panic spread in the area soon after the boy went missing. Fearing they would be caught, the accused allegedly strangled Atharv with a cloth near Gorewada, resulting in his death. They later abandoned the vehicle and returned home.
CCTV trail leads to arrests
Following the missing complaint, police began scanning CCTV footage from multiple routes. After the body was recovered, a Tata Ace seen heading towards Gorewada around the time of the incident was identified. During interrogation, Ayush confessed, which led to the arrest of the other two accused. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized.
Body dumped, vehicle cleaned
Police said the accused disposed of the body near the Kalmeshwar railway crossing flyover. In an attempt to destroy evidence, they later cleaned the vehicle.
The case was cracked through a joint operation by Gittikhadan Police and the Crime Branch.
