India on Wednesday issued a fresh advisory for its nationals in Iran, strongly urging them to “expeditiously exit” the conflict-hit nation.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Tehran advised citizens to leave the country using the designated routes shared earlier.
“It is again reiterated that there should be no attempt to approach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination with the Embassy,” the post stated.
The embassy also shared emergency contact numbers — +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, +989932179359 — along with the email ID [email protected].
The advisory came just hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire.
Earlier, the embassy had advised Indian nationals in Iran to remain indoors for 48 hours. The warning followed a statement by Donald Trump, who said a “whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran failed to meet his 8 pm Eastern Time deadline (5:30 am IST, Wednesday) to end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to official data, around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict began after joint strikes by the United States and Israel on February 28. So far, about 1,800 Indians have returned home.
US-Iran ceasefire
The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, shortly before Trump’s deadline to “obliterate” the country was set to expire.
The development came after Trump said he had spoken with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, who had urged a truce.
Sharif said Islamabad would host delegates from both nations for talks aimed at reaching a “conclusive agreement” on April 10.
Tehran confirmed its willingness to engage in discussions with Washington in Pakistan to find a path to end the conflict, which began on February 28 following joint strikes by the US and Israel.
