The self-enumeration process for the Census has officially begun, allowing citizens to fill in their household details online through the Census portal. The online facility has been introduced to simplify the data collection process and reduce manual paperwork. Citizens can complete the process from home by following a step-by-step registration and verification procedure.
Section 1: Access and Initial Registration
Step 1: Registration
Citizens must visit the official Census self-enumeration portal:
https://se.census.gov.in
After opening the website, users need to select their state and enter the captcha code to log in.
Step 2: Household Registration
Applicants must then enter:
- Head of Household’s name (cannot be changed later)
- A 10-digit mobile number (only one mobile number per household is allowed)
- Optional email ID
Officials have clarified that one mobile number can be linked to only one household.
Section 2: Verification and Location
Step 3: Language and OTP Verification
Users can choose their preferred language from available options including English, Marathi, Hindi and Urdu. Once selected, the language cannot be changed later. An OTP will then be sent to the registered mobile number for verification.
Step 4: Provide Location Details
Applicants must fill in:
- District name
- PIN code
- Village/Town/Locality details
Step 5: Locate Residence on Map
Users are required to mark their exact residential location on the digital map by dragging the red marker carefully and confirming the location.
Section 3: Data Entry and Final Submission
Step 6: Complete the Questionnaire
Citizens must fill in all required information in:
- Houselisting form
- Housing Census questionnaire
The portal also provides tooltips and FAQs to assist users during the process.
Step 7: Preview and Review
Before submission, users should carefully review all details entered. The portal allows:
- Editing entries
- Saving drafts for later completion
- Rechecking information before final submission
Step 8: Final Submission
After verifying all information, users must click on “Final Submit” to complete the process. Once submitted, no further changes will be allowed. A unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration (SE) ID will be generated and sent through SMS or email.
Section 4: Field Validation
Step 9: Enumerator Visit
A census enumerator may visit the applicant’s residence for verification. Citizens must share their SE ID with the official during the visit.
If the submitted information matches the verification details, the data will be confirmed. In case of discrepancies, the enumerator may collect the information again.
Important Tips for Citizens
- Use accurate and final information as some fields cannot be edited later
- Keep your mobile phone nearby for OTP verification
- Carefully mark the exact location of your residence on the map
- Officials stated that all submitted information will remain secure and will only be used for Census purposes
According to officials, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari are also expected to complete their self-enumeration on the first day of the process.
