Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday visited and reviewed the progress of several ongoing government infrastructure projects across Nagpur city. The inspection covered major institutions including Government Medical College and Hospital, Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital, Mankapur Sports Complex, the District Collector’s office and the Divisional Commissioner’s complex.
During the visit, the Chief Minister assessed the pace and quality of construction works. While expressing satisfaction over the overall progress, he noted certain deficiencies at a few locations. He directed officials from the Public Works Department and Medical Education Department to address these shortcomings promptly, emphasizing that no compromise should be made in the quality of government infrastructure.
Fadnavis reiterated that the objective of these projects is to ensure quality healthcare services for patients and improved infrastructure for medical students. He stressed that public facilities must meet high standards and deliver long-term benefits to citizens.
Highlighting healthcare reforms, the Chief Minister said the inclusion of government hospitals under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana has strengthened the system. He noted that hospitals are now receiving funds from insurance companies under the scheme, which are being utilized for operational expenses and infrastructure improvements. He added that relying solely on private hospitals limits the scheme’s reach, and the integration of government hospitals has made it more effective and inclusive.
He also pointed out that the number of procedures and surgeries under the scheme has increased significantly, with Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital emerging as one of the key contributors in its successful implementation.
