Bhoomi Kone, a student of Lady Amritbai Daga (LAD) College, has scored 75 per cent in Class 12 Arts — overcoming blood cancer, prolonged treatment, and years of disrupted schooling to achieve the result.
Bhoomi was diagnosed with blood cancer at the age of five. Her condition turned critical in 2011, requiring extended treatment that forced a long break from school. After completing Class 1, she was admitted directly to Class 5, leaving a significant gap in her foundational learning. She cleared Class 12 without private tuition, relying on self-study and time management. She sat for one examination paper while running a fever.
Bhoomi is also a theatre artist and uses stage performances to raise awareness about cancer. She plans to pursue a career in acting.
Her mother, who raised the family single-handedly through the illness, later took up social work for cancer patients and continues to work in that capacity.
“This achievement is satisfying given my circumstances,” Bhoomi said. She urged other students not to give up in difficult times and to stay positive.
