Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will launch a nationwide Annual Health Check-Up programme for workers aged 40 years and above on May 7, 2026, as part of the new Labour Codes framework.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the initiative will be officially launched at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital in Basaidarapur, New Delhi.
The Ministry said similar launch events will also be held simultaneously at 11 other ESIC hospitals across the country, with participation from Labour Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other dignitaries from respective states. The programme is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Shramev Jayate” vision, which focuses on the dignity of labour and expanding social security benefits for workers.
The initiative stems from the Centre’s labour reforms, under which 29 central labour laws have been consolidated into four Labour Codes aimed at simplifying compliance, promoting formal employment, and expanding social security coverage.
Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, coverage has been extended to unorganised, gig, and platform workers, while also providing for a Social Security Fund and wider ESIC benefits. One of the key provisions under the new framework is a mandatory annual health check-up for workers aged 40 years and above.
Beneficiaries covered under the ESI Scheme will receive these check-ups through ESIC’s hospital network, with emphasis on preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and regular health monitoring. The new rules also mandate medical examinations for workers engaged in hazardous operations — including those handling chemicals, toxic substances, or heavy machinery — irrespective of age.
The framework further provides for systematic maintenance of health records and periodic monitoring to safeguard workers’ long-term health and well-being.
