Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya is set to launch a nationwide Annual Health Check-Up initiative for workers aged 40 years and above on May 7, 2026, in accordance with provisions under the new Labour Codes.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the programme will be inaugurated at ESIC Medical College & Hospital.
The Ministry stated that similar launch events will also be held simultaneously at 11 other ESIC hospitals across the country. These events are expected to be attended by Labour Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and other dignitaries from the respective states.
The initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Shramev Jayate” vision, which focuses on the dignity of labour and strengthening social security measures for workers.
The programme stems from reforms introduced through the four new Labour Codes, which consolidated 29 central labour laws into four broader categories. The reforms aim to simplify compliance, promote formal employment, and expand social security coverage.
Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, benefits have been extended to unorganised, gig, and platform workers, while also creating a Social Security Fund and widening the scope of ESIC coverage.
One of the major provisions under the new framework is the mandatory Annual Health Check-Up for workers aged 40 years and above. For beneficiaries under the ESI Scheme, these check-ups will be conducted through ESIC’s hospital network, focusing on preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and regular health monitoring.
The policy also mandates medical check-ups for workers engaged in hazardous occupations involving chemicals, toxic substances, or heavy machinery, irrespective of age. In addition, the initiative proposes systematic maintenance of health records and periodic monitoring to ensure the long-term well-being of workers.
