For weeks, speculation has surrounded the OTT release of the blockbuster action thriller Dhurandhar 2, also known as Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
Fans eagerly waiting to stream the film at home were met with conflicting reports, especially rumours suggesting that the digital release could be delayed due to the ongoing IPL season.
However, recent developments have now ended the uncertainty. Contrary to earlier speculation, the film’s OTT premiere will not be postponed until the end of the cricket tournament. Reports now suggest that Dhurandhar 2 is likely to begin streaming as early as next week.
Interestingly, important details about the film’s digital release surfaced during a court hearing linked to the movie. Key information disclosed during the proceedings has now clarified the OTT rollout plans.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Super Cassettes, which owns the audio and music rights of the film, opposed the petitioner’s request for interim relief during the hearing.
The makers informed the court that the film had completed its theatrical run and was expected to remain unavailable on streaming platforms until May 14. The timeline reportedly follows the industry-standard gap of eight to ten weeks between theatrical release and OTT premiere.
Dhurandhar 2 will complete eight weeks in cinemas on May 14. Released on March 19, the film went on to become a massive box office success, reportedly collecting Rs 1,365.38 crore worldwide, including Rs 1,140.82 crore net in India.
Meanwhile, confusion over the streaming platform has also been cleared. Earlier reports claimed that JioHotstar had secured the OTT rights, while the first film in the franchise was streamed on Netflix. Latest updates now indicate that both platforms are expected to host the film, albeit for different audiences and possibly on separate release dates.
