Maharashtra medicine vendors and suppliers have announced participation in the national strike call given by All India Druggists and Chemists Association on May 20, 2026. The strike is being staged against alleged illegal online sale of medicines by the corporate companies.
President of the Association in Maharashtra Jagannath Shinde said that the medical stores in the state will remain closed on the day. Online sale of medicines can cause serious harm to patients. The small medical stores also suffer heavy losses due to online sale.
Several representations to the ministers concerned have remained neglected compelling the medicine traders to stage the strike. Shinde said the medicines required in emergent situation, however, will be made available.
