A jail official and a murder convict who met inside a Madhya Pradesh prison have now tied the knot after their relationship gradually turned into love.
According to a report by India Today, Firoza Khatoon, an Assistant Superintendent at Satna Central Jail, first met Dharmendra Singh while serving as the warrant-in-charge at the prison.
Singh was then undergoing a life sentence in connection with the 2007 murder of a councillor and the concealment of the body. During his imprisonment, he assisted jail authorities with warrant-related work, which led to frequent interactions between the two.
Over time, their professional association evolved into friendship and eventually into a relationship.
Couple marries after convict’s release
After serving nearly 14 years in jail, Singh was released around four years ago due to good conduct, the report said.
The couple later decided to formalise their relationship through marriage. Their wedding took place on May 5 in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Since it was an interfaith marriage, Singh reportedly altered his name on the wedding invitation card to avoid social criticism. Khatoon’s Muslim family members, however, did not attend the ceremony due to their disapproval of the relationship.
In place of her family, Rajbahadur Mishra, district vice-president of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), and his wife performed the traditional ‘kanyadan’ ritual.
The ceremony was also attended by members of Bajrang Dal.
