Ahead of the nationwide chemists’ strike scheduled for May 20, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued emergency helpline numbers and taken steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines across Nagpur district.
To assist patients during the bandh, the FDA released contact details of Drug Inspectors who can be reached in case of urgent medicine requirements. Citizens can contact Swati Bharde on 9890828194, Prashant Ramteke on 9028670024, and Abhishek Chavardol on 8897940981 for immediate assistance.
The strike has been called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists in protest against online pharmacies. In response, the FDA said it has made extensive arrangements to maintain a smooth supply of essential medicines throughout the strike period.
According to officials, a meeting with office-bearers of retail and wholesale chemists’ associations in the district was held on May 11. During the meeting, the FDA urged chemists to avoid participating in the bandh in the larger public interest and keep medical stores operational.
Authorities said efforts are also underway to personally reach out to medicine shop owners and persuade them to continue services. Necessary precautions have been directed to ensure that patients do not face inconvenience due to the strike.
The administration further appealed to citizens not to panic, clarifying that several major pharmacy chains in Nagpur, including MedPlus, Apollo Pharmacy, and Wellness Forever, will remain operational as usual on May 20.
