The trailer for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai finally dropped on Saturday, arriving two days later than expected but carrying far more buzz than a typical comedy entertainer usually generates ahead of release.
The three-minute-fifteen-second promo opens inside a courtroom, where Varun Dhawan’s character Jass and Mrunal Thakur’s Baani are in the middle of divorce proceedings. When the judge asks why the couple wants to separate, Baani complains that Jass is obsessed with romancing her all the time. Defending himself, Jass explains that he is only trying to start a family with his wife — leaving the judge thoroughly bewildered and setting up the film’s chaotic comic tone.
Things spiral further when Jass meets Preet, played by Pooja Hegde, at a nightclub and lies that he is single. Their romance begins to blossom, but Baani soon returns with the revelation that she is pregnant. Before Jass can process the news, Preet drops the same bombshell. The trailer then dives headfirst into a whirlwind of confusion, family drama, comic mix-ups and high-energy musical numbers.
The film marks the fourth collaboration between director David Dhawan and his son Varun Dhawan after Main Tera Hero, Judwaa 2 and Coolie No. 1.
Written by Yunus Sajawal with dialogues by Farhad Samji, the film features cinematography by Ayananka Bose and editing by Ritesh Soni. Production took place across Mumbai, Goa, Rishikesh and Scotland, with Glasgow and Edinburgh serving as key backdrops for songs and comic sequences before filming wrapped in late 2025. The soundtrack has been created by Tanishk Bagchi, Javed-Mohsin, Rony Ajnali, Gill Machhrai and Akshay-IP.
Produced by Tips Industries under Tips Films and co-produced by Gaurav Bose’s Maximilian Films in the UK, the movie borrows its title from a line in the song Ishq Sona Hai from Biwi No. 1. The original track, picturised on Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen, has now been recreated as the film’s title track.
A release date full of twistsThe journey to release has been unusually turbulent. The film was initially slated for an October 2, 2025 release before being postponed for additional production work. A June 5, 2026 date was later announced, only to shift multiple times amid scheduling clashes with Toxic starring Yash. After several reshuffles — including brief moves to June 12 and May 22 — the film eventually returned to its original June 5 slot once Toxic was indefinitely delayed.
Varun Dhawan even addressed the scheduling saga publicly, sharing a fresh poster on Instagram and thanking Yash and Maddock Films for helping restore the release date. He also described Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai as the first major film arriving after the IPL season.
Legal controversy over Chunnari ChunnariThe film has also landed in controversy over its remix of the hit song Chunnari Chunnari from Biwi No. 1, along with speculation that the comedy is inspired by an older movie.
Tips Industries released an official clarification denying reports that the film is a remake of any previously released title.
At the same time, Pooja Entertainment accused Tips Industries of using Chunnari Chunnari without proper authorisation. The original song featured in Biwi No. 1, which was produced by Pooja Entertainment. Following a legal petition filed by the production house, a court in Katihar, Bihar, reportedly issued a status quo order in the matter.
