Serious allegations of unauthorised activities by private pathology laboratories inside the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have surfaced after a Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawan released a sensational video exposing the alleged malpractice.
The hospital, considered a lifeline for thousands of poor and underprivileged patients across Vidarbha, is now under scrutiny over the alleged unchecked movement of private laboratory employees inside sensitive areas, including Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
In the viral video, the MSF jawan alleged that employees of several private pathology laboratories regularly enter hospital wards and ICUs to collect blood samples from admitted patients. The claims have raised serious concerns regarding hospital security, patient safety, and administrative oversight.
The jawan questioned how outsiders were being allowed access to highly restricted areas and who was facilitating their entry into the government-run hospital.
The controversy has also reignited concerns over the efficiency and credibility of GMCH’s own diagnostic laboratory services. Questions are being raised over whether essential tests are intentionally shown as unavailable or delayed, allegedly forcing patients to turn to private laboratories despite the availability of government facilities within the hospital premises.
According to the jawan, security personnel have repeatedly caught private lab employees trespassing inside the hospital. Acting on directions from the hospital administration, several individuals were reportedly handed over to the Ajni police. However, the jawan claimed that despite initial police intervention, the accused were quickly released and allegedly returned to continue their activities inside the hospital.
The matter has taken a more alarming turn with allegations that private laboratory workers are threatening MSF jawans for stopping them from entering restricted areas. In the video, the visibly distressed jawan questioned whether security personnel should continue performing their duties honestly when no strict action is being taken against the alleged offenders.
Sources alleged that the network of private pathology laboratories operating around Medical Square largely depends on patients admitted to GMCH. It is further alleged that some contractual and resident doctors refer patients to private laboratories in exchange for hefty commissions.
Notably, a similar controversy had surfaced during the tenure of former Dean Dr Abhimanyu Niswade, who had reportedly initiated strict action against doctors accused of compelling patients to undergo tests at external laboratories. Suspension orders issued at the time had reportedly created panic among middlemen operating within the system.
With the latest allegations now going viral, patients and citizens are demanding a high-level inquiry and strict action against those allegedly involved in the nexus between private laboratories and hospital insiders.
Repeated attempts to contact GMCH authorities for their response remained unanswered.
