The city police commissionerate has introduced five segways (self-balancing scooters) to strengthen patrolling in crowded lakefronts and market areas across Nagpur.
The initiative was launched under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal, Municipal Commissioner Vipin Itankar, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Northern Division) Rajendra Dabhade, while DCP (Zone C-1) Rishikesh Reddy played a key role in implementing the project.
Provided by Mihan India Limited, the segways have been allotted to Sonegaon, Sitabuldi, Ambazari, Tehsil and Sakkardara police stations. They will primarily be used for patrolling at Sonegaon, Ambazari and Futala lakes, Sitabuldi market, the Sakkardara-Tajbagh area, and the busy Tehsil-Itwari market zone.
Police personnel have already undergone specialised training to operate the modern mobility devices. Officials said the segways will help officers patrol crowded stretches more efficiently while also enabling them to make public announcements for crowd management and smoother movement in high-footfall areas.
