Currently serving as the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Air Marshal Dixit is a highly accomplished test pilot, flying instructor and fighter combat leader with over 3,300 hours of flying experience on more than 20 aircraft types, including the MiG-21, Mirage-2000, Jaguar and Hawk.
Commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on December 6, 1986, he is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Over a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades, he has held a range of command, staff and instructional appointments across the Air Force.
As Commanding Officer of the Flight Test Squadron at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Air Marshal Dixit played a significant role in several indigenous aircraft upgrade and development programmes, including avionics upgrades for the Jaguar and MiG-27 fleets. Later, as Director of Air Staff Requirements, he was instrumental in planning and conducting the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) trials.
He also commanded a premier fighter training base in the Southern Air Command, which was adjudged the best in the command during his tenure.
Throughout his career, Air Marshal Dixit has contributed extensively to the modernisation of the Indian Air Force and the advancement of indigenous defence capabilities. In recognition of his distinguished service, he has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) and Vayu Sena Medal (VM).
