Marking a major breakthrough in sustainable waste management, Nagpur’s Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant has successfully completed commissioning and trial production using Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The facility is the first in India to utilize Dry Fermentation Technology for converting municipal waste into CBG and organic fertilizer.
Project officials said the trial phase has been completed successfully and the plant has started producing biogas. Commercial operations will now be gradually stabilized, with full-scale production expected to commence soon.
The project developers thanked the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Government of Maharashtra for their support in implementing the initiative. They said the facility offers a sustainable solution for integrated waste management by converting waste into renewable energy and organic manure instead of sending it to landfills.
Officials added that the “Nagpur Model” has the potential to be replicated across Maharashtra and other parts of India, helping urban local bodies address waste management challenges through advanced waste-to-energy technology. The successful trial production is being seen as a significant milestone in India’s clean energy and circular economy efforts.
