Congress workers staged a protest outside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Gandhibagh Zone Office in Mahal on Friday, alleging administrative negligence and corruption in allowing unauthorized constructions without mandatory fire safety clearances.
The protesters claimed that several large-scale buildings are being permitted to operate without obtaining the required Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC), posing a serious threat to public safety. Demonstrators accused officials of turning a blind eye to violations and demanded immediate action against those responsible.
Raising slogans against the civic administration, the protesters attempted to draw attention to their demands by bursting firecrackers outside the zone office. The agitation intensified as Congress workers alleged that illegal construction activities were flourishing under the protection of corrupt officials.
Police personnel quickly intervened, seized the firecrackers, and detained several protesters. A brief scuffle reportedly broke out between the demonstrators and police during the operation, creating tension at the protest site.
The situation was brought under control shortly thereafter, and normalcy was restored. No major injuries were reported. The protesters warned that if strict action is not taken against unauthorized constructions and officials responsible for the alleged irregularities, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.
