On the occasion of ‘World Environment Day,’ MSEDCL has reaffirmed its commitment to a sustainable and green future by embracing the motto, ‘Our Land, Our Future.’ As the energy driving Maharashtra’s development, MSEDCL has now gone beyond merely supplying electricity and has taken the initiative to protect and conserve the environment. MSEDCL is now fully equipped to achieve the goal of ‘Green Energy, Prosperous Maharashtra.’
A New Dawn of Sustainable Energy: MSEDCL has brought a massive wave of energy transformation. Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0,’ the solarization of approximately 2,000 agricultural feeders has been completed so far, providing daytime electricity to over 1 million farmers in the state. This scheme is not only making the lives of farmers easier but has also created over 70,000 employment opportunities in rural areas through an investment of ₹65,000 crore.
Citizens are not behind in this Green Energy movement: Through the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar – Free Electricity Scheme,’ rooftop solar projects have been operationalized on more than 616,000 houses in the state, making the electricity bills of many ‘zero.’ Additionally, MSEDCL has set a new record by operationalizing over 1 million solar agricultural pumps in the country.
Future Goal: 52 Percent Renewable Energy: Under the leadership of MSEDCL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Lokesh Chandra, the target is to add a total of 45,000 MW of electricity, including 38,000 MW of green energy, by 2030. This will increase Maharashtra’s renewable energy capacity from the current 13 percent to 52 percent. This will be beneficial not only for the environment but also economically, as it will lead to savings of ₹82,000 crore in power purchase over the next five years, which will directly help in reducing electricity tariffs.
Integration of Technology and Environment: To protect the environment, MSEDCL is not just relying on large projects but is also encouraging small changes:Go-Green: Customers who avoid using paper are being given a discount of ₹120 on their first bill for 12 months. More than 5.1 million customers in the state have benefited from this scheme so far.
E-Mobility: To promote pollution-free transport, a network of EV charging stations is being expanded across the state. Today, there are over 11,000 e-charging stations operational in the state.Energy Efficiency: To spread the mantra of ‘Energy saving is environmental saving’ in every household, emphasis is being placed on increasing the use of LED bulbs and energy-efficient appliances.
Green Campus: Greenery is being maintained through tree plantations in every project and substation of MSEDCL.
A Responsible Companion: MSEDCL is not just an electricity company, but your friend who is responsible towards the environment. “Let us all come together to embrace solar energy, save electricity, and plant at least one tree and protect it,” is the appeal made by MSEDCL.
There is no doubt that MSEDCL’s resolution to fulfill the dream of ‘Green Maharashtra’ and through it ‘Green India,’ with the cooperation of all, will ensure a bright and pollution-free future for coming generations.
