Sejal Pawar, the woman at the centre of a social media controversy over remarks made during comedian Pranit More’s crowd-work show, has issued a public apology after a video clip from the event drew widespread criticism online.
Pawar came under fire after a segment from the show went viral, with many social media users objecting to her comments and questioning their appropriateness. The controversy erupted amid an ongoing debate surrounding content from More’s stand-up performances, several of which have recently attracted public scrutiny.
In a video message shared on social media, Pawar acknowledged that her remarks were inappropriate and expressed regret over the incident.
“I said a very wrong thing,” she said, adding that she wanted to publicly accept her mistake and apologise to those who were offended.
Pawar maintained that she never intended her comments to be interpreted in the manner they were received. She said she was not attempting to justify her remarks but recognised why they had triggered a negative reaction.
Describing herself as “really very naive”, Pawar said she had not anticipated that a brief portion of the interaction would circulate independently on social media and attract such widespread attention. She added that the episode had prompted her to reflect on her words and their impact.
Emphasising that accountability was important, Pawar said social media users were justified in calling out behaviour they found objectionable. She also stated that she did not wish to be associated with such remarks in the future.
The apology comes as criticism continues to mount over multiple viral clips linked to Pranit More’s crowd-work shows. The controversy has sparked discussions online about the limits of humour, audience participation in comedy performances and the responsibilities of both performers and participants in public forums.
