A 21-year-old woman died after falling from a bridge during a bungee-jumping event in Brazil’s São Paulo state, according to local media reports. The incident took place on Saturday morning at the popular “Skeleton Bridge” in Limeira.
Witnesses told Military Police that event staff may have failed to properly attach the safety cord before the jump. Brazilian news outlet g1 reported that the woman was sent from the platform without the necessary safety connection in place.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene, but the victim was declared dead at the location. She was later identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas.
Videos circulating on social media reportedly show organisers escorting Rodrigues de Freitas to the jump platform moments before the incident. Following the fall, people can be heard shouting about the safety rope.
According to reports, Rodrigues de Freitas had shared photos and videos from the event on social media before the accident, documenting the setup and participants preparing for jumps.
One of her posts featured a banner for “Entre Cordas,” the company reportedly associated with the activity. In a caption before the jump, she wrote: “Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge?”
Local news outlet Rápido no Ar reported that several event organisers left the area after the incident. Authorities later detained six people linked to the event, including five men and one woman, for questioning.
A local rescue news service further reported that two suspects allegedly fled the scene and were later located with the assistance of a police helicopter during a search operation in a nearby wooded area.
Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed the specific allegations against those detained.
Reports also stated that the victim’s fiancé was present during the incident and required medical attention after being informed of her death.
Brazil’s Civil Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy and whether criminal charges will be filed against those responsible for organising the event.
Officials have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
