The infrastructure crisis affecting the city’s water supply network has deepened, with a series of mechanical failures and accidental damage caused by third-party excavation work disrupting distribution across several areas. As a result, thousands of consumers in three key command areas are expected to face severe water shortages on Thursday morning, with authorities yet to indicate when normal supply will resume.
The disruption began on Tuesday night after a crucial branch valve of the Amrut Kalamna Wanjra ESR at Naglok became non-functional. The failure has forced the suspension of Thursday morning’s water supply to several localities under the Kalamna NIT ESR and Amrut Kalamna Wanjra command areas, including Chitrashala Nagar, Annapurna Nagar, Parvati Nagar, Aajri Majri and nearby neighborhoods.
The situation worsened on Wednesday evening when a third-party contractor accidentally damaged a 150-mm diameter distribution main pipeline near Nabiyan Masjid in Ahmad Nagar, affecting the Amrut Kalamna Wanjra ESR network. Around the same time, another contractor punctured an 80-mm pipeline in the Shree Nagar Command Area near PMG Society.
Due to these multiple breakdowns, residents of Shilpa Society, Jaidurga Society, Friends Society and adjoining areas will remain without their scheduled morning water supply until repair work is completed. Orange City Water has urged citizens to use stored water judiciously and cooperate during the temporary shutdown as restoration efforts continue.
