Aadhaar card holders will soon be able to update or change their registered email address without paying any fee, as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a special six-month waiver on email update charges. The facility will be available from July 1 to December 31 and can be accessed exclusively through the Aadhaar Mobile App.
Currently, UIDAI charges Rs 75, including GST, for updating an email ID in Aadhaar records. During the promotional period, however, users who complete the update through the Aadhaar Mobile App will be exempt from this fee. The standard charges will continue to apply for updates made through other channels.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging Aadhaar holders to keep their contact details current, improving both convenience and account security. According to UIDAI, linking a valid email address with Aadhaar enables users to receive important notifications, service updates, and security alerts related to their Aadhaar account.
A registered email ID also proves useful in situations where individuals misplace their Aadhaar number or Enrollment ID. In such cases, a verified email address can help users retrieve their Aadhaar-related information online.
To verify an email address linked with Aadhaar, users can visit the UIDAI portal, navigate to the ‘My Aadhaar’ section, and select the ‘Verify Email/Mobile Number’ option. After entering their Aadhaar number, email ID, and captcha code, they can proceed with the verification process.
An OTP will be sent to the registered email address for authentication. Upon successful verification, users will receive a confirmation message indicating that Aadhaar authentication has been completed successfully.
UIDAI has urged Aadhaar holders to make use of the free update window and ensure that their email details are accurate and up to date, helping them access Aadhaar services more smoothly and securely.
