A drunk youth creating a commotion on a public road in Ahmedabad’s Nikol area has gone viral on social media. The man was initially accused by bystanders of molesting a girl, prompting angry locals to confront and assault him before handing him over to the police.
According to information available, the incident took place near Chanakya School in Nikol. A girl and a few others were travelling on a two-wheeler when the allegedly intoxicated youth reportedly walked into or collided with their vehicle. The incident led to a heated argument, following which some people accused the youth of misbehaving with the girl.
As tensions escalated, a crowd gathered at the spot and thrashed the youth before detaining him until police arrived. Videos of the incident have since surfaced online, showing the crowd confronting and assaulting the man.
However, the police have clarified that no molestation took place during the incident.
Speaking on the matter, the Police Inspector (PI) of Krishnanagar Police Station said, “We have registered a prohibition case against the youth seen in the viral video and also initiated preventive action against him. There was no molestation in this incident. The youth, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol, collided with the two-wheeler on which the girl and others were travelling, resulting in a push. We have also recorded a complaint regarding the assault on the youth by locals and have taken the necessary legal action.”
Police have urged the public not to spread unverified claims on social media and said the matter is being investigated.
