The Nagpur unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the Head of the Medical Board (HOD) and a clerk from Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.
According to the ACB, the complainant, an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector posted at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Wardha, had undergone treatment following a road accident nearly six months ago. To obtain compensation under a motor accident insurance claim, he was required to secure a disability certificate from the Medical Board at IGGMCH, Nagpur.
The complainant alleged that despite completing all formalities, Dr. Nandkishor Kamalnarayan Chavela, Chairman of the Medical Board and Head of the Orthopaedics Department, along with clerk Ashish Bector, demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 for issuing the disability certificate and report.
After receiving the complaint, the ACB verified the allegations. During the verification, the accused allegedly agreed to accept ₹20,000 instead of the originally demanded amount. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap on June 30, during which clerk Ashish Bector was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Subsequently, Dr. Chavela was also taken into custody.
A case has been registered against both accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Sitabuldi Police Station, Nagpur. Further investigation is underway.
