Passengers on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai had a tense experience on Wednesday evening after the aircraft aborted its landing at Nagpur airport at the last moment due to heavy rain and unsafe runway conditions.
According to available information, IndiGo flight 6E-5147 departed Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Terminal 1) at 6.35 pm and was scheduled to land at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur.
At around 8.10 pm, the aircraft was on its final approach and briefly touched the runway before the pilot decided to abort the landing. The aircraft immediately accelerated and climbed back into the air in a standard aviation procedure known as a “go-around.” The sudden manoeuvre left many passengers startled.
After landing safely on the second attempt, the pilot informed passengers that heavy rainfall and water accumulation on the runway had created a risk of the aircraft skidding during landing. As a precaution, the crew chose to execute a go-around to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
The flight, which lasted around one hour and 35 minutes, ended safely without any incident. While the unexpected manoeuvre made the journey memorable for passengers, the pilot’s timely decision ensured a safe landing.
