Political drama Article 370 emerged as the biggest winner at the 72nd National Film Awards, winning the Best Feature Film award.
The film’s lead actor Yami Gautam was named Best Actress, while veteran Malayalam star Mammootty and Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor award for their performances in Bramayugam and Chandu Champion, respectively.
Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 is inspired by the government’s decision to revoke the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The film follows an intelligence officer, played by Yami Gautam, who is involved in a covert mission linked to the events leading up to the abrogation of Article 370.
Announcing the awards for 2024, Jayaraj, chairperson of the 11-member central jury, said the film focuses on the mission to fully integrate Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union.
