The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Fire and Emergency Services Department has issued a notice to Shri Radhakrishna Hospital and Research Institute after a report highlighted alleged violations of fire safety norms at the hospital run by the Shivprasad Poddar Charitable Trust.
As per the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, the Lakadganj Fire Station has served a three-hour notice to the hospital. A team from the Fire Department is scheduled to inspect the premises and review its fire safety arrangements. If the deficiencies are not addressed, the NMC may cancel the hospital’s fire No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Chief Fire Officer Tushar Barahate said that issuing a three-hour notice before an inspection is a standard procedure. He confirmed that the notice has been served and the inspection will be carried out on Tuesday. Based on the findings, the department will decide on further action, adding that violations of fire safety rules will not be tolerated.
During an earlier inspection, temporary structures, including a canteen built against the ICU and ward wall, were found on the premises. Temporary sheds had also been erected along the hospital’s outer wall, while scrap material was stored behind the ward. Since the hospital is located in a residential area, these conditions have raised safety concerns for nearby residents.
