A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Nashik region of Maharashtra on Saturday morning, with tremors felt in several nearby areas. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 9:55 am on July 25, 2026. The tremor caused brief panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes and workplaces as the ground shook.
The NCS said the earthquake’s epicentre was located around 44 kilometres north-northwest (NNW) of Nashik, at a depth of 5 kilometres, making the shallow tremor noticeable across the surrounding region.
Authorities are monitoring the situation, and further details are awaited. No reports of injuries or major structural damage had been received till the filing of this report.
Recent Tremors in Marathwada
The latest seismic activity comes weeks after a series of mild earthquakes were recorded in parts of Hingoli and Nanded districts in the Marathwada region.
On July 9, three tremors were recorded at 1:37 am, 2:15 am and 2:17 am, with magnitudes of 4.6, 3.6 and 3.9, respectively. The epicentre of those earthquakes was identified as Shirali village in Vasmat tehsil of Hingoli district. While the tremors caused concern among residents, no casualties or significant damage were reported.
Officials have advised citizens to remain alert and follow safety guidelines during seismic events, as earthquakes occur without prior warning.
