Mercury shatters all records, Nagpur @ 3.5 deg C coldest in State
Severe cold wave has gripped Orange City with mercury plummeting to all time low at 3.5 degree Celsius making Nagpur coldest place in the region. The minimum temperature in Nagpur plunged by another 2.2 notches on Friday after dipping 5.2 degree Celsius day before. Over the last two days the minimum temperature has dipped by 7.4 degree Celsius in the city.  According to the met officials severe cold wave is sweeping the region with minimum temperature below 10 degree Celsius all the districts barring Gadchiroli which recorded 10.2 degree Celsius. Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Nagpur predicted that severe cold wave condition is likely to prevail at isolated places in Vidarbha for next 48 hours.  Other cities in Vidarbha including Brahmapuri (7 degree Celsius), Yavatmal (9.0) and Gondia (6), Akola (5.9), Amravati (9.6), Buldhana (7.8), Chandrapur (9), Wardha (8.4) and Washim (8.6) also experienced the winter chill with minimum  temperature falling below two-digit mark.
According to RMC, the East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are getting affected by severe cold. The north-westerly winds are likely to prevail over northern plains and easterly winds also likely over central India and adjoining plains. Under this scenario, minimum temperatures are very likely to continue to prevail below normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over many parts of plains of north-west, central and east India during next 2 to 3 days.  Due to light to moderate winds and higher relative humidity shallow to moderate fog with isolated dense fog also likely over northern plain during next 3 days.
