MSEDCL to stop photo meter reading facility

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) will stop publishing the photographs of the meter reading on monthly electric bills from February 1.

In a press release, the MSEDCL has said that the consumers are given upto date information about their bills on mobile phones. Moreover, the distribution company has started the facility of paying the bills showing the SMS. Hence, the company has taken a decision to stop printing the photograph of meter reading on bills. MSEDCL has appealed to the consumers to register their mobile numbers with the company to get updated information about their bills and other services.

MSEDCL was the first in the country to start the service of printing photographs of meter reading on the bills with a view to provide accurate information of electricity usage. A number of consumers were benefited with the initiative.

However, with the mobile registration service, the consumers are getting all the latest information on their mobile phones through SMS. Thus, the consumers who have registered their mobile numbers with the company, get the information of meter reading instantly without even waiting for the bill. The consumers can cross check the reading at once and in case of any complaint, they can contact the  toll free number or the nearest office to get it rectified even before the bill is generated.

Although, the MSEDCL has taken the decision to stop the photo meter reading, to avoid any inconvenience, consumers can view the current month’s reading on company’s website www.mahadiscom.in, informs the press release.

Consumers can register their mobile number with 9225592255. To avail the facility, the consumers have to send a SMS to the above number wherein they have to type MREG (space) with their 12 digit consumer number. Once the SMS is sent, the consumer’s mobile number is automatically registered with the company. In addition, the facility is available on MSECL’s 24 hours call centre 1912 or 18001023435 and 18002333435 toll free numbers. Consumers can also log on to www.mahadiscom.in to register their mobile number.
