Finally, The Rashtrasant Tukduji Maharaj Nagpur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Sidharthvinayak Kane lifted the ban on the media and allowed the media persons to cover Senate meeting on Wednesday.

The university administration had convened the Senate Meeting on Wednesday. Last month, during the meeting of Management Council Dr. Kane had announced that media person will not be allowed in the Senate meeting citing provisions of Maharashtra Public University Act 2016.

During the meeting, some members of council members argued that act has not  specified that either media should be allowed or not in the Senate meeting. But a direction specified that newsmen are allowed to covere the meeting proceedings. After a long discussion, Dr Kane not accepting the arguments, announced a no entry to media at the meetings.

During the meeting of Senate on Wednesday, members raised the issue once again and took objection on it. They demanded that media should be allowed to cover the meeting. But Dr. Kane again rejected their demand, following which all the elected members walked out from house. Member of Mangement Council mounted pressure to change the decision. Finally, looking at the opposition and firm stand of the members Dr Kane rolled back his decision and allowed media’s entry.
