Punjab emerged overall champions with highest 32 points in the 17th Senior and 12th Junior National Para Powerlifting Championship was organised under the auspices of Paralympic Committee of India at Subhedar Hall here on Sunday.
In all 140 para powerlifters from 16 states participated in the two-day championship. Punjab bagged the general championship with 32 points followed by Haryana with 22 points.
Haryana’s Sudhir was declared ‘Strong Man of India’. He lifted total weight of 217 kg. Similarly in the women section, Sakina Khatun bagged the coveted ‘Strong Woman of India’ title lifting a total weight of 87 kg.
GM of WCL Nagpur region Diwakar Gokhale was the chief guest of prize distribution function. Senior sports journalist Rahul Dixit, CEO of PCI Omkar Yadav, Mohansingh Thapa, Yashwant Nimkhedkar and Arjuna awardee Vijay Munishwar were also present on the occasion. Rahul Lekurwale conducted the proceedings. Pravin Sorte, Manoj Balbudhe, Sachin Mathne, Uttam Mishra, Ashok Bhujade, Shekhar Dabhade, Sanjay Bhoskar, Deipali Munishwar, Atharva Munishwar, Latika Mane and others worked hard for the succcess of event.
