SNG boys, girls’ teams in final

Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) boys and girls teams entered the final in the ongoing District Youth Basketball Championship organised by Nagpur District Basketball Association at NASA’s Surendra Nagar court, here on Sunday.

SNG girls overcame Vision Academy 47-30. Swati Wnkhede (18), Shomira Bidaye and Siya Deodhar (11 each) were the main architects of SNG victory.  In the boys section, SNG entered the semi-final defeating NBYS 50-41. Krishnal Agrawal (21) and Omkar Markandey (15) displayed match winning performance for SNG. In an exciting semi, Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh (NBYS) girls piped Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) 51-50 by just one point to enter the final.

The semi-final between NBYS and DKM was the main attraction of the evening in which NBYS recorded just one point victory (51-50) over the opponents.  DKM started the proceedings on positive note went on to win first two quarters 17-14, 15-14.

Thus they were leading by 32-28 in the first half. After a change of ends, NBYS eves regrouped themselves and improved their play. They managed to win the third quarter 9-8 and then in the last quarter they downed the opponents 14-10 and walked away with thrilling win.

Thanks to Namrata Desai (20) who single handedly scored 20 points for the winners. She was ably supported by Sanjana Khandelwal and Aarya Dongre who scored ten each. For DKM the efforts of Dhara Phate (21) and Sameeksha Chandak (10) went in vain. In the boys section, Pawanbhoomi Krida Mandal (PKM) and SNG set up a title clash. In the first semi-final, PKM recorded an easy 51-38 win over Phoenix. Aditya Panga (19) and Vedant Shudrik (17) propelled PKM into victory. The finals will be played on Monday evening.

Girls: SNG (Swati Wankhede 18, Shomira Bidaye 11, Siya Deodhar 11) bt Vision (Saee Deshmukh 13, Krupaee Sharma 6) 47-30 (23-4, 10-10, 8-12, 6-4); NBYS (Namrata Desai 20, Sanjana Khandelwal 10, Aarya Dongre 10) bt DKM (Dhara Phate 21, Sameeksha Chandak 10, Bhumika Gedam 9) 51-50 (14-17, 14-15, 9-8, 14-10).

Boys: PKM (Aditya Panga 19, Vedant Shudrik 17) bt Phoenix (Tanuk Gurmule 12, Rahul Nagulwar 12) 51-38 (19-18, 6-2, 10-10, 16-8); SNG (Krishnal Agrawal 21, Omkar Markandey 15) bt NBYS (Pratham Gupta 14, Sahil Choubey 10) 50-41 (3-7, 9-10, 16-10, 22-14)
