Brain dead WCL employee gave new lease of life to three

With one more organ donation on Friday, Nagpur completed its half century as a total of 50 people donated their organs and gave a new lease of life to several, in city since 2013.
On May 1, Vinod Waghmare (53), WCL employee met with an accident at 7.30 pm at Vani Bhaldhar road. He was driving two wheeler and reportedly a wild animal appeared in front of vehicle due to which he got unbalanced.
Noted here that after Vinod was declared brain dead, his two kidneys and a liver were retrieved and transplanted to the patients in Zonal Transplant Coordination centre (ZTCC) waiting list.
A kidney and liver were donated at New Era Hospital and another kidney to Care Hospital. The transplant was going on at respective hospitals till the report was written.
It is worth mentioning here that Vinod had severe head injury after the accident. He was admitted at Sugam Hospital and then shifted to New Era Hospital.
Dr Nilesh Agrawal, Neurosurgeon and Dr Parag Moon, Neurophysian were both supervising his treatment. Vinod’d C.T of brain showed the he had brain stem ischaemia.
Ischemic strokes is a condition when blood clots form in the narrow arteries in the head or neck, cutting off the blood supply to an area of the brain.
Doctors explained this condition to his relatives. After counselling, the family finally gave nod for organ donation. ZTCC stated that Vinod’s wife Sanghamitra Waghmare had given her formal consent to donate his two kidneys and a liver.
The ZTCC-Nagpur started the process and allocated one Kidney to 40-year female at New Era Hospital and another kidney to 57 years’ male patient at Care Hospital. Whereas liver was transplanted to 46 years’ male patient at New Era Hospital.
Besides, the team of ZTCC included, President Dr Vibhawari Dani, Vice president Dr V L Gupta,  secretary Dr Ravi Wankhede and retrieval and transplantation were coordinated by Veena Wathore. Whereas team of doctors at Care hospital who performed transplant were, Ashwinikumar Khandekar, Nephrologist, Dr Dhananjay Borkar, Dr Swanand Choudhary, Urologist, Dr Deepali Gomase, Dr Nitin Chopde and others.
Whereas the panels of doctors at New Era hospital comprised of Dr Parag Moon, Neurophysian, Dr Sahil Bansal, Anaesthetist, Dr Amol Kokas, Intensivist etc.
So far these were the 88th and 89th deceased Kidney transplant in Nagpur Zone. 27th Liver transplant in Nagpur City and 4th Donor of this year.
