JCC with MIDC & DISH workshop on “Industrial Fire Safety & Disaster Management”

Joint Coordination Committee consisting of VIA, MIA, BMA, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Nagpur Vibhag, DICCI, Vidarbha Chapter, Nagpur, Kalmeshwar Industries MIDC Association, Kalmeshwar, Nagpur and CII Vidarbha Zonal Council, Nagpur in coordination with Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) organised workshop on “Industrial Fire Safety & Disaster Management” held at Udyog Bhawan.

Santosh S Warick, Chief Fire Officer & Fire Advisor – MIDC, Mumbai, expressing concern over the recent fire incidences happened at various places in the country, he further stressed on preventive measures and said there was need to create awareness on the issue. He said there was a significant gap in availability of fire safety installations and its requirement at many places. He was Chief Guest of the function.

Warick further said, “Realising the fact that many commercial and residential places in our country are ill equipped with fire safety systems, it is better to the focus on preventing fire rather than thinking of extinguishing it. We also need to understand that creating awareness among the masses on fire safety parameters and sensitising them could be the best approach in this regard.”

Warick highlighted that many people ignore fire safety measures at commercial and residential areas. “And they heavy price for their ignorance. The recent incident of fire in Surat in Gujarat is one such example where there was no emergency exit. Many the students trapped on the top floor of the building could not come. He also spoke about various acts and guidelines meant for fire safety in industry and commercial places.

While speaking on the topic ‘Disaster Management for Business Continuity’, Sanjivan Joshi, Head, Disaster Management of All India Institute of Local Self Govt, Mumbai, was special invitee and he said holistic approach was needed. “The issue of safety cannot be seen in isolation. Besides fire, we will have to take into consideration various other risk factors like natural calamities and man-made problems. And to keep going, one should get prepared to deal with all these factors. It is very essential for maintaining continuity in our businesses,” he said. He further added that “it was not only the authorities’ responsibility to adopt safety norms but every individual should also think of it. Unless we fight collectively, we cannot bring in change,” he observed.

At the outset, Jayant Moharkar, Additional Director of Industrial Safety & Health, Nagpur Division; spoke on ‘Health, Safety and Environment Management in Industries’. Highlighting various acts and guidelines, he appealed to the participants to follow them in the interest of the society.

Atul Pande, President of Vidarbha Industries Association in his welcome address, he informed about how safety is important for any organisations as well as for lives of employees. Further he said in every organisations must have disaster management team to tackle, handle the crises at difficult situation.

Nitin Lonkar, President BMA proposed a formal vote of thanks. Vaibhav Zarkar, Manager HR – ZIM Lab, conducted the proceedings of the event. Prominently present on the occasion were Capt C M Randhir, President – MIA, Amar Mohite, President – Kalmeshwar MIDC Industries Association,  Shrikant Dhondarikar, President (Nagpur Vibhag), Laghu Udyog Bharati, Nagpur and others.

Pradeep Khandelwal, of Vineengineer Projects Pvt Ltd, coordinated the workshop.
