Four people gets new life after 4 organs were donated by a city’s brave soul

In a sixth deceased organ transplant this year in city, a heart, liver and two kidneys were retrieved and donated to four people in Nagpur and Mumbai, on July 6.

Resident of seminary hills, donor Prakash More (38), a transport businessman, was admitted to Alexis hospital on July 2 with a complaint of uneasiness. After the prolonged treatment, his condition deteriorated neurologically and hence was declared brain dead on July 5.

A team of doctor counselled the family for organ donation. Following the formal consent from family, Zonal Transplant Coordination centre (ZTCC)-Nagpur allocated his heart, liver, both Kidneys to four recipients at Nagpur and Mumbai for donation which will cultivate a new hope of life.

It may be noted that heart was allotted to Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai, liver to Alexis hospital to a 58 year female from Bangalore, a kidney given to New Era Hospital to a 51 year female, Madhya Pradesh and another kidney to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital, Sawangi, Wardha which will be transplanted to a 29 year male from Nanded.

It is pertinent to mark that because of Prakash’s mother Meera,wife Gayatri Omre, and sister Jyoti Kumre alertness and kindness the organs were retrieved within time limit.

Also, the two kidneys were allocated in Nagpur zone as per the waiting list. But Heart and Lungs alert had been sent to State and National Level respectively. As per the information, there was two needy patients for lungs at Chennai, but due to the logistic glitches, they could not be sent there. Besides, the organ donors ‘honoured corridor’ was created by Alexis hospital doctors, management and staff.

Under the able guidance of DSP shri Gajanan Rajmane , two corridors were created with the help of retired ACP Jameel Ahmad PI Mahesh Chuhan and PSI Wagh. Traffic police PI Shendre worked hard and was waiting for more than 3 hours to maintain peaceful transportation service.

Brain dead committee members of Alexis Hospital included Alexis Hospital Director Dr Jatinder Arora, Suraj Tripathi, Intensivist Dr Sanjay Kripalani, Dr Devendra Naitam. neurologist Dr Abhishek Wankar, intensivist Dr Nitin V. Dhmbhare.

It is to be noted that donor management, retrieval and transplant was done by Alexis hospital surgeons Dr Ajitabh Shrivastav, Dr Prakash Jain, anaesthetists Dr Piyush Shrivastova, Dr Dilip Wasnik, Dr Sheetal Awhad.

Whereas Fortis Hospital team retrieved heart. It consisted of Dr Sandeep Sinha, Dr Satish Javali, Nishant Sarvagod, and Rohit Bunage. New Era Hospital team included, Dr Surojit Hazra for retrieval, Dr Sanjay Kolte, Dr Shabbir Raja.

Organ allocation and coordination was provided by Zonal Transplant Coordination centre-(ZTCC) Nagpur President- Dr. Vibhavari Dani, Secretary- Dr Ravi Wankhede, coordinated by Nagpur Zone coordinator Veena Wathore.
