Ambazari’s age-old Banyan tree is finally saved after efforts by the nature lovers. The banyan tree which is located at the entrance of the Ambazari Garden was subjected to an artificial soil depletion which occurred due to a broadening of the Ambazari Road.
The tree had its half of the roots exposed and was left with no soil to cover the deep roots. After the decision made by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Green Vigil Foundation, the roots of the tree are now covered by a cement wall.
The cement wall works as a protection for the soil, as it is not letting the soil deplete. The NMC Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar, who is also a nature lover, had given orders to the authorities to construct a wall around the exposed part of the tree.
These orders were given after the founder of Green Vigil Foundation approached Bangar.
The area around the tree was in a vulnerable condition and the soil and the inner part of the crust of the ground was totally damaged in the construction process. The stones from the inner crust were also visible and could be pulled easily as the layer of soil was too weak.
The work of constructing a wall around the tree was initiated on May 23 and was completed by the end of the month.
