Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has commenced a training session for 150 women to become a driver or conductor of the busses. It’s a one-year training program, after which Nagpurians will be witnessing women drivers behind the steering wheels of ST buses.
According to sources, the authorities amended some of the rules under the recruitment drive, wherein some seats are reserved for women.
One of the rules that have been amended is the experience needed for women drivers from three years to one year. After rigorous verification of applications, a total of 150 women has been shortlisted for the program.
Training will be commenced initially for short distances and gradually will be long-distance travel. MSRTC has also started a training program for tribal women. Till date 21 tribal women have been trained under this program. The rickshaws of women drivers are given a pink color.
