Bad news for the city cricket fans as the Bapuna Cup pre-season cricket tournament has been called off for the first in 24 years, because of inclement weather and bad ground conditions. The tournament was scheduled to begin on September 6.
A senior VCA official while informing all the participating teams about the decision said, “If they wish to stay in the city, we will allow them to use all the facilities”.
The VCA authorities also held a meeting earlier to discuss changing the format from 50-over to Twenty20, but it also did not materialize. Earlier the matches were used to be played on the multi-day format.
All the five teams, two from city Bapuna XI and Dinshaw’s XI Mumbai Cricket Association, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association and Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh were denied some important match practice ahead of the season-opening Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Tournament that gets underway later this month.
